I know it’s August, but here’s “June in Review.”
My internship with the Bay City Times ended June 8. After that, I began freelancing; you’ll notice my byline reads ‘for the publication’ instead of just the publication’s name. Freelancing has been wonderful; I’m very thankful for the relationships and connections I have here in Michigan as I continue my northern adventure!

Patsy Aguilera of Bay City and Mary Mahony of Libertyville, Ill., laugh as they try to adjust a sail during the annual Try Sailing Day event hosted by the Saginaw Bay Community Sailing Association on Saturday, June 14, along the Saginaw River’s eastern bank in downtown Bay City. (Danielle McGrew)
Logan Branco, 9, Tyrel Sellner and Heather Emerson cheer as Dan Orchard, #97, claims first place in the second heat for Formula Two powerboats during the River Roar in downtown Bay City on Saturday, June 28. Orchard is Logan’s stepfather and Sellner’s brother-in-law. The group traveled from Cambridge, Ontario, for the weekend event.
“We get to come down here every year and have a blast,” Sellner said. “We don’t mind the trip.”
Emerson said they left at 5 a.m.
